At Least You Have Your Health

When I pray at night, or when I'm feeling grateful for my many blessings, one of the first things that comes to mind is how thankful I am for my health. The fact that I am strong, healthy and energetic may not seem like a big deal at first, but if you really think about it, it's a miracle!

First of all the amount of bacteria, diseases, and colds floating around from person to person is endless. Then you have to take into account that three times a week or more I'm dancing for almost two hours, putting strain on my muscles and joints. Add on top of that the amount of time I spend barreling down the freeway at 70 miles an hour with the distance of only a few feet between my car and the other vehicles.

Then I could go into all the genetic disorders that I could have inherited, my five senses which work perfectly (minus the aid of corrective lenses), the effects of breathing polluted air most my life. I could go on for a while, but I think you get the point.

I meet people every day who have some sort of difficulty with their health and every time I am reminded just how grateful I am to not have the same problems. I've been sick with the flu and a high fever before and I recall it being a miserable 'I want to die NOW' sort of experience. Not many things can make me feel that way and I have a lot of respect for those who have spent most their lives with some sort of health problem that makes them feel sick all the time. I have no idea how you could possibly handle it, but you have my deepest respect. You are my heros!

I've had a couple times where I was in a really bad mood and someone turned to me and said, "At least you have your health." At the time I just rolled my eyes, but now that I've learned just how healthy I really am in comparison to others, I understand that statement to be profound declaration!

If you are struggling with your health, know that those of us who are healthy wish nothing more than for you to feel better. I completely admire you for your strength to smile through it.

To those of you who are healthy like me, appreciate what you have! It is nothing short of a miracle.
