Figure dancing can be a lot of fun. When a group can get a dance down and move together with good synchronization it’s quite an accomplishment. For me, learning a figure dance can also be hard. The steps may be more basic, but figures add the stress of possibly messing up and bringing down the scores of a whole group, rather than just yourself.
The Shelley Wasatch Winter Feis is now about a week away and Amelia Walker and I are planning to compete an Open 2-Hand figure together. The dance has some fun choreography and spins and we’re excited to perform it. I have to admit I am a little nervous and really hope I can do the dance right. I have an easier time doing solos since I don’t have to worry about matching another dancer.
We’ll be doing the dance twice at the Feis since we signed up for regular figures as well as a Valentine’s 2-Hand Special. We’re going to dress up with candy hearts, pink poodle socks and add a little extra showmanship in that version. It’s going to be a fun Feis! This time I’m just as excited to compete figures as I am my solos in Open Championship.
