The Wasatch Winter Feis 2011

Article featured in Diddlyi Magazine.

Last weekend The Shelley School of Irish Dance put on the second annual Wasatch Winter Feis. I really love this feis since the championship competitions are held in an auditorium with a massive stage. Competing on a stage rather than a gymnasium is wonderful since in my opinion dancing is a lot more fun when it feels like your putting on a show for an audience. It also helps me to forget about the judges while I’m competing.

As I was dancing I was also very impressed with the acoustics in the auditorium since I could hear my own feet pounding out the rhythms extremely well! It can be frustrating when the room your competing in dulls the sound of your feet.

I didn’t get a chance to watch the early morning competitions since I arrived in the afternoon, but I was glad I didn’t come too early since waiting for your turn to compete can be really tiresome. I did, however, get a chance to take a lot of colorful photos of the championship treble reel special. I enjoy taking photos of Irish dancers as much as I love dancing myself and I got some really great shots on Saturday.

Overall it was an excellent Wasatch Winter Feis and I’ll be looking forward to the next one.
