Dancing Socks

Article featured in Diddlyi Magazine.

Since I started dancing at The Shelley School, I’ve developed a strong appreciation for my feet. Without my feet, I wouldn’t be able to Irish dance! So I think it’s important to always give them special attention. I try not to walk around barefoot outside, I never jump on trampolines for fear of twisting an ankle, and I love to adorn them in brightly colored socks.

Many girls at The Shelley School love to wear colorful socks to practice. It began years ago when one of the Champ dancers started wearing mismatched socks to class. After a couple months a few more of us started doing it as well.

Now, years later when you enter the Shelley studio, your eyes will be dazzled with bright greens, reds, stripes, polka-dots, sometimes even florescent leg warmers with yellow tights.

It’s a lot of fun to see who wears the most extreme style to practice. Poodle socks just aren’t enough for us. There’s just way too much fun to be had when it comes to showing off feet. And isn’t that what Irish dance is all about?
