Irish Dancing For St. Patricks Day

Article featured in Diddlyi Magazine.

March is the month where everyone puts on their green and celebrates Irish culture. For an Irish dancer, it can be a very busy time! If you’re a performing Irish Dancer, you know what I mean. Every March it’s the same. I’m very excited for all the excitement to begin.

March means St. Patricks Day. That means everyone wants to hire Irish Dancers for their St. Patrick’s Day show. So this is the busiest month of all for The Shelley School and The Shelley Irish Dance Company. In past years we’ve done mutiple shows every week in March, rushing from one event to the other, carpooling and making the fastest possible costume changes.

This year is no different. This week alone we have three shows. On St. Patricks Day itself we’ll be doing a run of shows all day ending with a large theatre performance and a Utah Jazz Half-Time Show. We’ve been practicing hard in the studio and preparing as best we can for the March rush! It can be very stressful having so many shows at once, but it’s also a wonderful experience.

It’s a very exciting thing to be a presentation of Irish culture for so many audiences. At this time of the year I take pride in my ability to dance and help celebrate everything beautiful about Ireland.

Happy St. Patricks Day everyone! What are you doing to celebrate?
