Rolling A Previously Sprained Ankle

Article featured in Diddlyi Magazine.

I rolled my ankle in a solo near the end of the Shelley Irish Dance Company show last Monday. It was my right ankle, of course. The same ankle that I sprained three years ago. I wrote an article about the sprain a couple months ago titled Can A Sprained Ankle Affect Your Irish Dancing Years Later? Click here to read it. This article definitely answers the question asked in the previous article!

By late Monday evening my right ankle was swollen and a purplish blue. I took a week off from dancing. It’s been hard since I’m used to dancing pretty much every day. Luckily it’s not a bad time to take a break. The next feis I’ll be competing in is still two months away.

I’ve been icing it and just letting it rest and today, a week later it feels and looks a lot better. This evening I plan to try and dance very carefully on it for the first time since the show. I won’t be forcing it though. Having the ability to dance for many years to come is much more important than being able to dance right now.
