The 2010 Crossroads Feis

Article featured in Diddlyi Magazine.

I had a blast over the weekend at the 2010 Crossroads Feis hosted by The Power Academy of Irish Dance. There was some intense competition and a lot of different opportunities to compete in Specials!

First of all, I have to give a special thanks to the school for finally allowing the older dancers to dance first! 90% of the time, the 17 and Over Championship dancers are required to wait until the very end of the Feis to compete. Instead, the schedule on Saturday required the younger dancers to take a turn waiting till the afternoon to compete. It was so nice to be finished with all my competitions by 2:00 PM!

I did not place in my solo competition, but won second place in a Set Dance Special that required each dancer to perform a different set dance than the one they danced in their solo competition.

One of the best parts of the whole Feis however, was The Superhero Special. The competition had over 40 competitors all dressed as Superheros performing original choreography in soft and hard shoe. Amelia Walker, Tiernan Brown and I dressed up as The PowerPuff Girls and danced a 32 bar 3-Hand. It was so much fun and we received a lot of compliments on our wacky costumes.

I was able to take some great photos at the Feis and overall I think we all had a really great time! It was a wonderful warm-up for the Western Region Oireachtas being held next month.

Have you ever dressed up for a Special at a Feis?
